About Us
Shetland Pre-School Play (SPP) is a voluntary organisation, which
was founded in 1972 and is the representative body for Shetland
voluntary sector pre-school groups. We are here to lend support
and to offer advice on a variety of topics from play provision
to legislation, as and when required. SPP receives the majority
of it's funding from the Shetland Islands Council enabling us
to employ fieldworkers and admin support on a part-time basis.
We also
run training courses and workshops, provide two toy libraries,
supply publications and also produce a regular newsletter.
The toy
libraries are open to under-fives groups who wish to take out
membership. One toy library specialises in equipment to support
children who have additional support needs requirements and
is, in addition, open to parents with a child with these needs.
As like
all voluntary sector groups, we have to fundraise to provide
part of our budget and to help sustain and extend the service
we already provide. In the past these have included staging
special children's events such as The Singing Kettle, Mr Boom
and The Happy Gang.
We work closely with
all local childcare agencies to represent group's interests
and views, to keep up to date with new legislation and to help
promote a multi-agency approach to childcare.
